Composition

Each ml contains:

Imidocarb Dipropionate     120 mg

Mechanism of Action:

Imidocarb is a carbanilide compound. It prevents access of protozoal parasites to inositol and also produces vacuolization and deformation of cytoplasmic structure, ending in blood parasites death.

Imidocarb is well absorbed after subcutaneous injection. Its high concentration period in plasma is short and it rapidly is distributed all over the body. It is metabolized slowly and stays in all tissues for long time. A major amount of Imidocarb leaves the body without any change mostly through urine and much less through faeces.

Indications of use

It is used against blood protozoal infections including Babesiosis in sheep, cattle, horses and dogs as well as Anaplasmosis in cattle and Ehrlichiosis in dogs.

Dosage and route of administration

In Babesiosis for prevention in cattle and sheep 1 ml/100 kg b.w. and for treatment 2.5 ml/100 kg b.w. In severe cases a second injection may be needed 24 hours after first injection.

For prevention in horses, donkeys and mules 2 ml/100 kg b.w. In dogs 0.5 ml/10 kg b.w. For Anaplasmosis in cattle 2.5 ml/100 kg b.w.is used.

Infections due to Babesia caballi are usually treated completely by imidocarb but success of treatment in Babesia equi cases is 60%.and in these cases it is better to repeat injection 6 weeks after first infections as follows:

A: In horses for Babesia caballi treatment, 2 doses each 2ml/100 kg b.w. with 24 hour interval. For Babesia equi 4 doses each 4ml/100 kg b.w. with 72 hour intervals.

B: In donkeys and mules for Babesia treatment 2 ml/100 kg b.w. with 24 hour interval.

In dogs for Ehrlichiosis 2 doses each 0.5 ml/10 kg b.w. with 14 days interval.

Imidocarb should be injected subcutaneously or intramuscularly.  I.M. route is recommended for use in cattle, sheep and horses preferably in neck muscles. S.C route is recommended in dogs behind neck and where loose skin exists.

Storage conditions

Between 2-25º C, away from light.

Avoid freezing.

Withdrawal Time

Meat: 28 days after last injection.

Milk: In cattle 3 days after last injection. In sheep from first injection until end of lactation period milk should not be used for human consumption.

Precautions

Do not inject intravenously. After injection animals may show side effects similar to cholinergic drugs with signs like dyspnea, excessive salivation, bradicardia which are temporary but dogs in such cases should be kept under surveillance for 15 minutes and if signs persist side effects should be treated with atropine sulfate.
